Ineligibility Period
The ineligibility period is calculated by dividing the amount of the gift by the amount the State mandates as the average monthly cost for a Nursing Home stay. This amount will vary from state to state. The current amount mandated by the State of Florida is $5,000.00. (this is the amount, which is used in the diagram below). The result is the number of months the Nursing Home patient is ineligible for Medicaid benefits. Ineligibility penalty begins on date of application.
